Das Obertor is the eldest of four gates in the city and it is the largest stonework. Since it has been modified several times it is difficult to say exactly when the massive tower was built. However, its origin can be considered to mid-15th century. In the gable still hangs “the poor sinners bell” that was used to ring during executions till the 19th century.
